from BlazeVOX [books]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Poetryetc,
I wanted to let you know about some of
our new book releases and a bit of news. We have a bunch of great new titles
listed below and we have a new brand new catalog. This is our best catalog yet!
185 titles in 7 sections making it easy to use and easy to order.
http://www.blazevox.org/catalog.htm [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?et=1103139646215&s=805&e=001rZUboqrswwpe5W2KFdnxUABwvmTBOt9jhDMbNmg5U7IWd8MBFKlFn_l1FVCjNg5Zh2W1AIN3ykjjDxHc2NM5Xp48qcTKE3U2aygAmifCVbaeirYARNje5u20P8_nmBa4]
BlazeVOX [books] has been making news
lately! We have a wonderful interview in the current issue of American Book
Review and we were lucky enough to be spotlighted by Poets & Writers in their Small
Press Points. [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?et=1103139646215&s=805&e=001rZUboqrswwqXKfrXiVRT4xZ8IoDZ6ur-iuSQXcUxPX7VBYkCtRf_eO1h7McIVH9XbjxlKKyrBQOypsXa4kfjsGZh_009quTNc-B5svqoMhnmB67t04aYolO2srQoVY_l3821KMdaN1v0p1sr_EI3bA==]
And we are looking to a very strong
future, having just purchased a block of one thousand ISBN's we can now make
one thousand more books. Which means we can keep our current level of
production for the next 12 years. That is if the world can stand such a thing
:-)
Be sure to check out our Winter issue of
our journal BlazeVOX 2k9. It's an exciting grouping of poetry and wild fiction!
We'll have our Spring issue up as soon as the snow begins to melt!
Check these new releases
Best, Geoffrey
Slaves to Do These Things
by Amy King
I'm portable. My mind travels / the verse and valleys of whole people
says the poet. Correct! Readers of this book will discover their own
memories. They will melt in them, amazed, lullabied, dramatized,
shocked that they exist. Amy King is a true bard.
Gerald Locklin: A Critical Introduction.
Michael Basinski (ed.)
Gerald Locklin remains one of my all-time favorite poets. Though he
claims to have learned a lot from me, I continually learn from him.
With all the erudition and life experience underpinning his seemingly
simple poems, his sardonic virility, his nimble wit, and good sense
leave no room for pretentiousness. I'm eternally grateful for his
radical rejection of fashionable affectations -- the surface simplicity
and plain speech are the result of true artfulness and sophistication.
I continually rediscover his work, and as new books keep appearing over
the years, the poems never stop rewarding and delighting me.
Che.
By Peter Money
"Che. is language painted and profound in its charity...immense in its
symbolic wave. The novella begins with the noise of rain and ends with
our undisguised tears. Clearly, Che. is only answerable with
language-beyond, hooves across the landscapes and desert time. A
provident novella it is finally a symbol for the gaze of resilience.
The precision of dreaming and the psyche¹s print indulgent in reverie
and magic."
-Colin Momeyer (from a review of Che.)
"prolific coming in from all directions"
-Allen Ginsberg (on Peter Money)
Was There No Interlude When Light Sprawled the Fen
by K. Alma Peterson
K. Alma Peterson's language is vividly pictorial. And some of her poems
are composed as a visual field. But not for the sake of the eye alone
does Peterson write--her poems are saturated with feeling, too, as they
suggest, one by one, the emotionally complex stories of family life and
of the spiritual consolations of nature. Over both land and water,
through house and through time, move the questioning protagonists of
her poems. And Peterson's poetic ear is as keen as her artistic eye:
her vocabulary is filled with surprises and striking metaphors, and her
wonderfully deft compositions are as interesting to hear as music. She
writes--to paraphrase one of her poems--for our entirety.
Letters To An Albatross
by Anita Mohan
'No ideas but in things.' In lieu of abstraction and sentimentality, Anita Mohan
presents 'real gardens'with real apperceptions in them. More inlooker than onlooker,
she
enlivens the flora and fauna of this volume with her
being-in-the-landscape. In the mind's ear one can hear Stevens'
beachcombing siren for whom, 'therenever was a world, except the one she sang and,
singing, made'. These pictorial love songs are the work of an imposingly august
imagination.
Meet Me at the Happy Bar
By Steve Langan
I'm consistently jealous of Steve Langan's small-a absurdist accuracy,
not to mention his unfailing ability to dredge gorgeous song from the
hum of the normal. Meet Me at the Happy Bar is sharp, sad, sassy, and
frighteningly alive.
