Factory children gorge on factory chicken,
not knowing much beyond their gate;
but going at it with a will. All the same,
ill-educated. Programmed, most of them.
Bread and flashing lights keep them occupied.
Their minds have been clipped back in case of fights.
No room to turn round in the arguments
which splash up from casual overcrowding.
Work liberates. It sets us free to live,
disconnected from gross dependency
as we were when first the ice retreated
from our once fair land. Do what’s necessary!
That’s all it takes to get them to support
what a decent man knows inside himself.
