Building on the success of last year's Student Conference on Operational
Research we are proud to announce the 2nd Student Conference on Operational
Research (SCOR 2010), which will be held at the University of Nottingham,
UK between Friday 9th and Sunday 11th of April 2010. PhD students studying
Operational Research, Management Science or related fields are invited to
submit an abstract for presentation at the conference. The purpose of SCOR
2010 is to provide a friendly environment for students that are early on in
their OR careers to develop and practice their presentation skills, whilst
receiving constructive feedback on their work and meeting other OR students
in similar positions. As such, the work presented need not be fully
developed or early research directions thoroughly explored as yet.
The scope of the conference includes, but is not limited to:
- Air Traffic Control
- Call centre management
- Data Mining
- Decision Support
- Demand Estimation
- Forecasting Models
- Geographical Information Systems
- Healthcare
- Heuristics and Metaheuristics
- Inventory
- Maintenance
- Mathematical Programming
- Multicriteria Decision Analysis
- Neural Networks/Machine Learning
- Optimisation
- Queueing
- Reliability
- Risk Assessment
- Scheduling/Timetabling
- Simulation
- Sport
- Stochastic Modelling
- Supply Chain Management
- System Dynamics
- Telecoms
- Transport
Presentation at the conference in order to attend is not mandatory, however
it is encouraged, especially for students who may have little experience in
presenting or who want to practice their presentations in front of a new
audience before presentation elsewhere. It is also a good networking
opportunity to meet students from other universities with similar research
interests. The conference is held the weekend before the first NATCOR of
the year, which will also be held in Nottingham. For students attending
both conference and course we provide the opportunity to book an additional
night's accommodation when registering for SCOR.
The conference is fully catered and will provide a full social program
including a social event on the Friday and the conference dinner on the
Saturday night.
To submit an abstract (no more than 250 words) please go to the conference
website at http://www.scor2010.co.uk The deadline for submission is Monday
15th March 2010, notification of acceptance will be sent out shortly
afterwards. Registration procedures will be available soon and in order to
encourage a wide range of students to attend, as last year, the conference
fee will be minimal.
In a change to last year, after the conference presenters will also be
invited to submit a short (no more than 5 pages) paper on their work to be
published electronically as part of the SCOR 2010 proceedings. This is to
give students a chance to experience the peer-review process and to
practice their technical writing skills. Details of this will be published
at a later date and is not mandatory (though again, highly recommended.)
