Done all in second para - all in first para sounds really good but only if I lived in an ideal world i`m afraid

Hi Sharon, maybe this issue should be brought up to a much higher management
level with emphasis on the risk the health service is facing if it is not
tackled and potential legal implications (even to board level). They will
then put pressure on line managers who will then apply suitable leverage on
employees. Could you join up with HR too?

Potentially a leaflet sent with the reminder about the implications of
getting whatever nasty maybe helpful as well as a health promotion month (or
whatever) highlighting the health risks may increase your attendance (also
may meet some other departmental targets as well!).

It is really difficult changing organisational culture, but often a
strategiv bigger picture approach can be more successful in the long term.

Hope this is helpful!

Andrea Martin

We have done - little effect from that either. We have a new boss who is
very keen on "robust management" who undoubtedly would be happy to send
out various missives - but I really think that might be counter
productive .....

Hi Sharon

I feel that this is a mangerial issue. Do you report non attendees to
line managers?

Cheers
Pete

Hi Sharon,
I too sometimes have a problem with non attendees and it can indeed be
very frustrating when all you're trying to do is protect them. I too
used to get quite cross and start to think about a heavier handed
approach. However, I was then reminded that this is in fact their
problem! Providing that you document document document that you have
repeatedly tried so you are 'covered', the problem should then become
their problem! Remind yourself that you are not their mother and hand
the responsibility back to them. I tell myself that it most certainly is
not my role to 'hand lead' them. Good luck!

Can I ask initially NHS colleagues and then anyone who can offer
suggestions how t hey deal with habitual non attendance for
vaccinations? I have a "hit list" of a fair few people who dont attend
for their hep B appointments despite a variety of interventions, we
train them on induction, we offer appts we sent out reminders,
information updates, notices to staff, remind them again blah blah blah.
Is there a point that you give up? In my world not quite the same of
health worker undertaking exposure prone work - the risks to our staff
are through search procedures and undertaking C&R. However HSE having a
big push on issues within HMPS and one of their pet subjects is
vaccination. I really dont want to get heavy handed but feel that I
might have to if there is this consistant ignoring all attempts to get
them to attend. Any suggestions?
