UNIVERSITY OF LEEDS
HEART TRIAL
HEALTHY EATING AND ACTIVE ROUTINE TRIAL
Dear Colleagues
Coronary heart disease is a major concern for the Asian community, namely
the South Asian community. People who have their origins in India, Pakistan
and Bangladesh have a 50% higher likelihood of developing heart disease. I,
from the University of Leeds, am working with Heart Research UK to get some
feedback for a health promotion DVD designed to communicate prevention
information to people of South Asian origin.
I am looking for Asian men and women over the age of 18 and who are fluent
in English to take part in a simple research study. The study is completed by
post and it is anonymous. I would simply like to know what kinds of food
people are eating, how much physical activity they are doing and general
information about health. I would also like to get some feedback about the
DVD. There are 3 parts to the study:
Time 1 – participants fill out a simple questionnaire relating to diet and
physical activity and return by freepost
Time 2 – after receipt of the Time 1 questionnaire, a DVD is dispatched along
with a short questionnaire, which is also returned by freepost
Time 3 – 3 months after initial participation, a final questionnaire is dispatched
for return by freepost
This is really important research which could provide some exciting new
information about how to communicate health information to the South Asian
community. I’d be really grateful if you could support this work by either
participating yourself (if you are South Asian), or circulating information about
this research to relevant contacts, friends or family. You don’t have to have
heart disease or know anything about heart disease to take part.
There is a prize draw for everyone who completes all 3 time points. There are
2 first prizes of £100 cash and £100 high street vouchers and 3 runner
up prizes of £50.
If you would like to participate, please email me at [log in to unmask]
It doesn’t matter where you are in the country as the study is completed by
post. This study has been given ethical approval. If you have any questions,
please drop me a line.
With kind thanks
Amrit
