I agree that those "out of office" emails are annoying and add unnecessary junk to my already overloaded email box...
Another benefit of changing the settings I believe would be that when you reply to either a single colleague (reply) or to the whole list (reply all), your email address would automatically appear, to which they can easily send another reply (rather than having to remember to add your own email address in the CC address line or below your response - if the case be that you are not using an email signature - or you are accessing your email remotely via the web, as I do often, in which case the signature does not appear automatically when you reply). (eg as demonstrated below, and above)
best wishes,

If other Jiscmail lists work well like that then I don't really see why this one
couldn't!
An additional benefit would be that those automatic 'out of office' notifiers
wouldn't go to everyone on the list

Sorry I raised it then. I think it is about what you are used to. Most of the
lists I am on have a choice of reply to sender or reply to all which sends a
message to the list. Most of the time people reply to all and the message goes
to the list and there is good discussion, as on this list. It seems that midwives
aren't very familiar with using a 'reply to all' option, unlike the people on the
other lists. It may be that a trial period would give you a chance to test it,
but that most people are worried about trying this.
