Hi Graham,
It’s horses for courses. If you have a large and complex website then you probably also have editors who are either experts in their areas or marketing specialists. They won't want to learn all about xhtml, css, accessibility etc just to put up details of a new exhibition; nor would you want to give them the tools to inadvertently alter your templates or worse.
Regards
Daphne

Subject: Re: CMS recommendations
Hope you don't mind, but I'm doing a bit necro here into your archives. Does
everyone here use a CMS?
I'm wondering because we don't and it hasn't ever been a consideration. (But
should it be?)
At what point do you need to use a CMS?
Or even why use one at all? Coding in html/xhtml etc. doesn't seem too
difficult a task and you have full control over your site content.
