*** Event: Librarians as Teachers: The New Professionals? ***
 
The Career Development Group, West Midlands and University, College, and Research Group West Midlands section are pleased to announce a joint one-day event on the teaching role of information professionals, hosted on Wednesday 26th May 2010 in the University of Warwick Library's innovative Teaching Grid. Bringing together the expertise and experience of noted practitioners, this participative event will enable attendees to consider the status of librarians delivering teaching, and learn practical ways to advance and employ their own teaching skills. The event will be relevant to anyone in the LIS sector interested in improving their teaching practice and/or knowledge of current professional developments in this area.
 
Confirmed contributors include Antony Brewerton (University of Warwick), Jo Webb (De Montfort University), Geoff Walton (Staffordshire University), Sally Patalong (Coventry University) and Emma King (University of Warwick Learning and Development Centre), with the event concluding with a panel session.
 
Learning Outcomes:
* Increased understanding of the potential benefits of teaching skills and accreditation for LIS professionals
* Appreciation of the opportunities/challenges for LIS workers undertaking teaching in their roles
* Shared experiences of effective teaching development/practice and relationships with academics/teachers
* Awareness of career development opportunities and how to pursue them

Cancellations received after Wednesday 19th May 2010 will incur the full cost of this event, unless a substitute can be found from the same organisation.
