IngentaConnect gets ahead of the game with Shibboleth 2 compliant
release
London, UK - March 10, 2010 - Publishing Technology, the largest
provider of software and services for the publishing industry, today
announced the latest release of IngentaConnect, its flagship collection
of e-publications.
This release of Ingentaconnect includes Shibboleth 2 integration in
anticipation of the forthcoming industry-compliant deadline of June
30th. Compliance with Shibboleth 2, a standards based, open source
software package for user authentication, is the latest in several
advances made to ensure the platform remains future-proof for its
publishers and its users. In an ever-evolving digital landscape,
IngentaConnect enables both its partners and users to be secure in the
knowledge that their content and delivery technology is safe-guarded for
the future.
IngentaConnect's compliance with the latest Shibboleth standard is
enabled via OpenAthens SP, which also supports authentication for prior
versions of Shibboleth to ensure continued access for those who have not
yet applied for the newest standard and also other new technologies as
the develop.
"Our partnership with OpenAthens SP has been crucial to IngentaConnect's
compliance with Shibboleth 2. It also means that we can easily support
other federated access systems e.g. Open ID and are poised to embrace
new emerging technologies as and when they arise - these new automations
can be made available on IngentaConnect literally at the touch of a
button." comments Rose Robinson, IngentaConnect Product Development
Manager.
In addition to Shibboleth 2, the enhancements in this release of
IngentaConnect include Open Access support to more clearly identify free
and Open Access content to users, improved visibility of purchase and
download options. The release also includes integration with
RightsConnect from the Copyright Clearance Center, and also offers a
'More about this publication? / More like this' feature that shares
additional information with readers, such as editorial board details and
highlights related articles as recommendations, potentially driving more
usage and revenue opportunities for hosted publishers.
IngentaConnect is also pleased to announce three new clients to select
its online publishing package, as well as two publishers that have
recently had content made live. Content from St Antony's International
Review (STAIR), Northwestern University Press and Sense Publishers will
all soon feature on IngentaConnect, and content from City University of
New York and Firenze University Press is now available.
