UK CONFERENCE: "WHAT DO HUMAN RIGHTS MEAN FOR DISABLED
CHILDREN IN THE UK?"
DYNAMIC EARTH, EDINBURGH, 30TH APRIL 2010
For more information and to book go to www.crfr.ac.uk
As you will be aware, disabled children in the UK face
disproportionate difficulty in fulfilling their United Nations
Children's Convention (UNCRC)and other human rights.
This conference aimed at all those working in the field of children's
rights; academics; those working with or for disabled children and at disabled
children's parents and disabled young people themselves, will examine
the rights of the UK's disabled children, looking, for example, at
rights to healthcare; education and social care.
The conference takes an UK wide perspective with speakers and
delegates coming from around the UK, from the public and voluntary
sectors and from academia. We will also hear from parents of disabled
children and from dynamic young disabled people from a Northern
Ireland based rights group.
The aim of the conference is to be a spring board to ensuring that the
position of disabled children is fully presented in future UK NGO
reports to the UNCRC and to plan the best way of ensuring this.
The conference includes an explanation of the United Nations
Children's Convention and what it means for disabled children in the UK.
YANGHEE LEE, THE CHAIR OF THE UNCRC COMMITTEE HAS KINDLY
AGREED TO PROVIDE A PRE-RECORDED KEYNOTE SPEECH FOR THE
CONFERENCE.
We hope you will be able to join us for this exciting and important day.
