Professor John R. McNeill is an eminent environmental historian,
academic, and president-elect of the American Society for Environmental
History. He is author of several best-selling books, including Something
New under the Sun, An Environmental History of the Twentieth Century
World (translated into 7 languages); Mosquito Empires: Ecology and War
in the Greater Caribbean, 1620-1914 (Cambridge UP, 2010); and The Human
Web: A Birds-Eye View of World History (co-authored with his father
Prof. William McNeill, recent recipient of a US National Arts and
Humanities Award.
