Berg Publishers is pleased to announce it has signed an agreement with
the Scottish Higher Education Digital Library (SHEDL) to licence its
complete journal content to all 19 member institutions starting from
2010 until 2012.
Berg Publishers will provide access to a wide range of highly acclaimed
and interdisciplinary journals with a strong focus on visual arts and
culture. Its collection of 17 journals with their respective archives
include the market leading Fashion Theory, the award winning Textile,
its long awaited journal Interiors, and the newly launched Art in
Translation, which earned an ALPSP commendation in 2009.
The three year agreement will support SHEDL's initiative to provide
access to a larger variety and number of electronic journals to the
Scottish Higher Education community. It will improve the existing
research infrastructure by enabling and furthering collaborative
research.
Wilson Smith, Principal Librarian, Edinburgh College of Art, commented:
"The inclusion of Berg Publishers in the latest round of SHEDL
agreements is a very welcome development. As a specialist library in
the areas of the visual arts and design we have always been aware of the
quality of Berg's products and their distinctive voice in academic
journal publishing. It's fantastic now to be able to offer our users
online access to the entire range of Berg journals, and also to know
that this access is shared by the whole Scottish Higher Education
community. Scottish researchers in all aspects of visual and cultural
studies will benefit greatly from this uplift in the resources available
to them."
Kathryn Earle, Managing Director at Berg Publishers, said:
"We are very pleased to have this arrangement in place with SHEDL. It
means that Berg journals will be available to a much broader audience
across all members' institutions. SHEDL is taking a lead in developing
relationships with arts, humanities and social science publishers, and
not only with STM publishers. We certainly hope that other consortia
will follow SHEDL's example in recognizing the value of
interdisciplinary scholarship."
