Good I've just completed a snow leopard build from source myself and don't
see the problem either.
Meanwhile I'm wondering if the other issues are down to an incompatible
C++ standard library distributed with the gfortran download (not sure if
you only get that with the full gcc/gfortran download or not). Moving that
out of the way got an earlier version of GAIA up and running for me, but I
should check the Hawaiki version.
