Dear Simon,
at the MPDL we are developing some solutions and services based on the
eSciDoc service infrastructure. It's fully open source and is already in
use. So far we are dealing with publications, images (from research) and
scanned manuscripts. Upcoming, we start with a project to manage
astronomical resources.
