Snap: a quiet lie-down
The morning paper's full of gloom
from Athens to London to Washington.
Yesterday's too - push them aside
and head for a quiet lie-down.
At the only hour permitted by law
I stand and hose the front garden.
Boredom and arm-ache set in soon.
I just want a quiet lie-down.
Whenever he sees another dog to greet
my dog is dragging me off my feet -
I just want to get home soon as I can
and have a quiet lie-down.
This house has countless windows
all in need of elbow grease.
I've polished five or six and now
I just want a quiet lie-down.
The car keeps stalling, I almost
lose control without power brakes.
Let me get home soon as I can
and have a quiet lie-down.
Last week two funerals - same day -
brought home to me we all have to die.
Roses and organ music, or chanted Hebrew -
they both got their quiet lie-down.
