LEARNING AND TEACHING AWARDS
We are pleased to invite nominations from the economics community for our
annual Learning and Teaching Awards Scheme. The Awards are open to UK-based
academics who have demonstrated excellent commitment, enthusiasm and
effectiveness in their teaching practices.
There are three main categories: Outstanding Teaching, eLearning and Student
Nominated. Every year the awards attract a wide range of entries and we are
looking forward to another successful year. Each of the categories
highlights a key area in the teaching of Economics.
The deadline for nominations is Wednesday 30th June 2010 and the winner of
each category will receive £250.
Additional information, including submission guidelines and online
nomination forms are available at:

ACADEMY SCOTLAND TRAVEL FUND
This continuing initiative, launched by Academy Scotland last academic year,
is aimed at encouraging the exchange and dissemination of good practices, at
the discipline level, throughout the UK. It is specifically aimed at
enabling staff and students in Scottish HEIs to engage with colleagues from
other parts of the UK and to support their institution’s priorities and
developments in learning and teaching.
There are no set closing dates for applications. Instead, applications from
staff and students in Scotland’s 20 HEIs are invited throughout the
academic year 2009-10. Up to 30 bursaries will be funded to a maximum value
of £300 each. Further details and an application form are available from:

CALL FOR PROPOSALS
The International Journal of Pluralism and Economics Education invites
proposals for short papers that explore the complex chemistry of using a
"contending perspectives" (Barone, Journal of Economic Education, 1991)
approach in economics education.
This symposium builds on Barone's influential work and to reflect anew on
the educational goals of pluralist economics education (What are they?
How do we know when students have achieved them?) and the role of
"contending perspectives" in achieving these goals.
Proposals must be received by March 15 in order to be considered for this
symposium. Further details are available at:
http://www.econ.tcu.edu/Garnett/IJPEE.pdf
Alternatively, you can contact the symposium organisers: Rob Garnett
([log in to unmask]) or Andrew Mearman ([log in to unmask]) for further
details.
EU ECONOMIC DATA REQUEST
One of the Network’s contacts would like to use EU economic data for a first
year course. Are any lecturers using similar databases/datasets that they
could recommend or be willing to share? If you think you might be able to
help please get in touch with the Economics Network.
