For those with an interest in heritage and the archaeology of disaster events, an article in today's Guardian online about what victims of the Haiti earthquake managed to salvage from the wreckage of their homes
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/gallery/2010/feb/10/haiti-natural-disasters
This reminded me of a whole range of things, from Peter Read's accounts of 'lost places' in Australia, to Richard Gould's book on disaster archaeology and Shannon Dawdy and Margaret Bagwell's work on Hurricane Katrina.
I think its also yet another example of the a tendency within contemporary journalism to increasingly cross over with the interests of many of us in the archaeology of 'now' and contemporary material culture studies, and the increasing amount of column space given over to heritage and memory issues in the press.
