Ooops!!! I hit Send when I meant to hit Save ...
But given the length that I've already gone on at, perhaps the revelation
that it's entirely possible that much of the discussion of a certain element
of early cant in Scottish Traveller's speech is down to Davie Stewart
bullshitting Hamish Henderson in the fifties, which is later picked up by
Alan Lomax and Ewan McColl (and so I'm back to the beginning and Peter's
mention of _Travellers' Songs from England and Scotland_ ) and the only
other example I've been given, other than two songs reported from Davie
Stewart via Hamish Henderson in Kennedy's anthology, is Jimmy MacBeath's
"The Barra Gadgie" in a CD entitled: _2 Gentlemen of the Road: Jimmy
Macbeath & Davie Stewart_ ...
Well, perhaps as well I accidentally hit Send when did, and didn't even have
time to sign the earlier post.

Health Warning: This will be long, with a narrow focus, and perhaps should
be backchannel to Peter, but in case anyone else is interested, here it is.
