I believe that Microsoft was only persuaded to add the accessibility section to Windows because the US government insisted on full access for their disabled staff (under advice from Trace Centre). Anyone think of a government use for ebooks?

No answers I'm afraid, but it does seem mad that the potential of
ebook readers has been around for what seems like a long time now, and
we still can't utilise them with switches.
Our engineer Gerard is pretty good at breaking switches out from most
stuff, but we've just been told by senior management that we must get
the permission of the manufacturers for any equipment we modify, or
prove that there is absolutely no other option and risk assess it ad
infinitum.

Has anybody contacted Sony or Amazon about this ? Would they even
respond ? Would it be worth sending a petition / begging letter from
all of us ? It obviously won't be feasible for them to fit switch
jacks, but maybe it would benefit their 'corporate social
responsibility' to approve a standard way of breaking out a switch
that we could all then use. It wouldn't be worth it for little used
equipment, but it seems to me that switch enabled ebook readers would
have a reasonable demand.
