Research Fellow
University of Birmingham - School of Health and Population Sciences
Fixed term for 2 years in the first instance
We wish to recruit a health economist with strong analytical skills to undertake economic evaluations in two projects. One project is a NIHR HTA
funded study working with Lily Yao. The study is to conduct economic evaluations alongside a randomised controlled trial. The post will involve
statistical analysis of the clinical trial data for economic evaluation and developing a decision analytic model to extrapolate economic
implications beyond the trial. The work will provide an opportunity to carry out methodological research relating to economic evaluation, especially
use simulation modelling approaches based on earlier trial data to predict long-term economic outcomes.
The other project is a European Union funded project working with Richard Lilford. This study is evaluating service changes to make care safer and
builds on methodological work from our group. The project will involve incorporating utilities and probabilities and conducting value of information
analysis.
Applicants should have a Master degree in economics and should have quantitative skills in statistics or operational research. Experience in
decision analytic modelling or Bayesian decision theory, and a track record of publications are desirable. Good communication and writing skills are
essential. The post is for two years in the first instance but likely to be extended to 4 years and beyond for another two years.
