Booker in his IA of the Tamar Valley makes reference to Captain Phillips'
(of Bedford United) diary in connection with the discovery of the Main Lode
at DGC in 1844. I don't have a copy of Booker to hand (am at work) but
basically it deals with loans of tools, issue of candles etc in connection
with the deepening of Gard's shaft. Unfortunately Bookers referencing
leaves a lot to be desired.
Justin Brooke in a 1977 article "Who discovered DGC" in the Memoirs of the
Northern Mine & Cavern Research Society quotes the "Phillips papers pene
Norman Phillips".
