Ha, thanks. Did suspect this and my guess is this feature cannot be
turned off on a cheap P&S. And thanks to all other replies.
The Canon A480 I was considering at $129 sounds a good basic point and
shoot camera, I surmise. Nikon's are around $6,000.
I have just spent $80 on 35mm colour film simply for documentation
purposes. While this is cheap insurance to prove I own copyright on
images worth quite a bit more and date stamps on colour labs are
difficult to forge, considering I have matching negs, unlike digital
time stamps, other documentation need not have this proof. So it seems
to me digital is far more cost effective.
However, now my domestic scanner (HP Scanjet 2300C) is playing up.
(First, one must suspect Ubuntu Linux has yet again broken the scanning
software.)
I trust my tripod, a Gitzo Studex 4 (world's strongest tripod) will hold
it still while I hit it with a hammer, if need be. (Trivia: this tripod
design was based on a first world war machine gun stand.)
