I should add writing and publishing poetry to this list of my coming to
understand B&W film and prints. Because of multigrade papers, where the
contrast of the printing paper can be almost seamlessly altered with
coloured filters (I use a condenser enlarger which is also higher
contrast) as well as a larger range of different film types we have
today, compared to when I worked as a photojournalist, B&W is even more
plastic then in earlier years. Also, poetry seems to draw a line for me
between working and art, so I can get to B&W as art.
Also, abstraction is imagination. When a viewer asks; what's that? They
don't want an answer from me, they want to use their imagination. They
could get insulted or let down if I try to answer. Best cj
