A graduate student position in experimental laser physics and spectroscopy
in the Laboratory of Physical Chemistry, the University of Helsinki, Finland
An opportunity is offered for a graduate student to work on lasers, optical
parametric oscillators, and their applications to high-sensitivity trace gas
spectroscopy in the Laboratory of Physical Chemistry at the University of
Helsinki, Finland. The position is in the Molecular spectroscopy and
theoretical chemistry group, which is headed by Prof. Lauri Halonen. The
position is available immediately. The salary is based on the university
salary system and depends on personal skills and the advancement of the
graduate studies.
The successful candidate has studied in spectroscopy, optics, laser
technology, physical chemistry, applied physics, or related field. He/she
holds a Master’s degree or equivalent in science and has both the motivation
and abilities to successfully carry out postgraduate studies. Keen interest
in the research topic, possible practical experience in experimental
laboratory research, and familiarity with optics & optomechanics,
electronics, computers & software, vacuum apparatus, etc. are appreciated.
While initiative and the ability to perform independently are encouraged,
the student is also closely supported and supervised by the research group.
We will provide a chance to develop a deep understanding of a broad range of
spectroscopy-related technologies, methods, and science in an established
group with excellent facilities. The University of Helsinki is the largest
and most highly ranked research university in Finland, and the Molecular
spectroscopy and theoretical chemistry group is part of one of the few
Finnish Centres of Excellence in Research. The Laboratory of Physical
Chemistry is located in the Chemistry Department building in the new Kumpula
science campus area in Helsinki. Helsinki is a vibrant and increasingly
international capital of Finland - a land which is particularly attractive
due to its wild nature and sometimes known as the country of tens of
thousands of lakes. Naturally, the opportunities for both summer and winter
sports and outdoor activities are excellent.
