Given the earliness of the faith and the prevalence of paganism, I can
understand how the 'average' person would have seen it as a Dionysus
reference rather than associating it with the last supper. the Eucharistic
Rite wasn't codified as it was in later years, was it? I mean, people were
not yet trained to the association of paten and chalice with Christian
faith.
