medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Today in Edinburgh, we celebrated St Kentigern (Mungo). See below for

Kentigern (d. 603) Legend tells that Kentigern's mother got pregnant
without benefit of a husband and was thrown from a cliff on the shore
of the Firth of Forth (Scotland). She was miraculously uninjured.
When Kentigern (or Mungo, which means "darling") grew up he became a
monk and gathered a community in the area that's now Glasgow, where
he also became bishop. An odd legend tells that a queen got into
trouble---she gave a ring to a warrior as a love token. The king
found out, got the ring off the lover's hand when the latter was
asleep, and threw it into the sea. The king then asked his wife to
show him the ring. She appealed to K for help; he sent a monk out
fishing, who caught a salmon with the ring inside.
