I managed to get to the List All Datasets with no problem, though I
haven't really looked any further yet. The page can be accessed @:

http://data.gov.uk/data/all

Many Thanks

Re: [data-protection] New Website

I hope you're right, Tim. So far the site hasn't been particularly
responsive, so I have no way of checking with any degree of ease. But it
is still the beta version.

Ah well, shooting from the hip as usual, there is my blog about my
experiences so far at http://tinyurl.com/yaak9mm

I'm trying the page that lets me 'list all datasets' to see if that gets
me any closer. Well I have been for the last age. Methinks they need more
oil for the abacus wires to let the beads slide faster. But that page
produces zero results and their server is too busy to service a separate
enquiry.

I think the idea is that the data is made available in a raw fomat, and
then others can then exploit the data for a commercial purpose. The person
who develops the App for the iPhone has presumably spent money on that
development, so is charging for it. The point of the website is ? in my
opinion ? only partially to throw out data to the public. I think a major
part of it is to facilitate re-use of data for commercial purposes, hence
the iPhone apps.

Raw data is often not that useful by itself and needs refinement ? either
the public sector pays to do that, or it gives the raw data to the
commercial sector, and they will reasonably expect a return on their
investment.
