A highly motivated senior medical statistician with proven experience in the
design, oversight and analysis of multinational clinical outcome trials is
sought to head the Diabetes Trials Unit (DTU) Statistics and Modelling Group
(SMG).
The DTU is the largest Academic Research Organisation (ARO) worldwide that
specialises in performing mega trials in the fields of diabetes and
cardiovascular diseases and forms an integral part of the RAE 4* rated
University of Oxford Nuffield Department of Medicine. The Unit designs,
runs and analyses large-scale multinational interventional outcome trials,
performs disease-specific genetic and biomarker studies and undertakes
challenging statistical methodological research.
The successful candidate will join an innovative research team specialising
in the field of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. Reporting directly to
the DTU Director, he or she will be expected to work independently with
broad responsibilities for statistical designs, analysis plans and
supervision of analyses, reporting of large and small-scale clinical trials
with opportunities for original research. The postholder will provide
statistical leadership, support, and quality assurance to all the research
staff in the department. He or she will oversee the continued development
and expansion of the SMG, manage and mentor statistical staff and through
research activity, publication and securing of external funding, contribute
to maintaining and improving the overall standing of the department.
The post holder should possess a PhD in Medical Statistics (or equivalent)
and have at least 5 years of practical experience in a relevant field
supported by a sound publication record. Substantial statistical experience
must include randomisation methodology, advanced multivariate modelling,
generalized mixed modelling and advanced survival analysis methodologies.
This is a full time appointment and the post is funded for five years in the
first instance with a high probability of extension.
