Submissions are invited for the inaugural
German Embassy Award for Translators
The 2010 award will be made for the best translation of a chosen German
literary text into English.
The award is generously sponsored and supported by the German Embassy
and the Goethe Institute, London, and administered by the Society of
Authors.
Prize: one month at the Literarisches Colloquium Berlin (LCB) with 1000
Euros spending money and visit to the Leipzig Bookfair (18-21 March
2010).
Each year a different extract from a German literary text will be
presented for translation into English, and the award will be made for
the best translation.
This year the competition text is an extract from Zoran Drvenkar´s
novel entitled "Du bist zu schnell" (Klett-Cotta, 2003).
The aim of this award, which provides a unique opportunity for literary
translators working in the UK, is to promote and develop German-English
translation in the United Kingdom.

Eligibility criteria
The Award is open to:
- UK citizens and those who have been resident in the UK for the last
three years or more
How to enter
Please supply:
- A completed entry form with contact details and current email address
- Five hard copies (non-returnable) of your translation, which should
be double-spaced, and with your name on each page
- A letter of intention regarding your aims and translation interests
- A Curriculum Vitae or resumé listing your previous publications
