HEAD OF INFORMATION AND STATISTICS
Health Solutions Wales is based in the dynamic and fast growing city of Cardiff
and is part of Velindre NHS Trust. We are a specialist Information & IT
organisation, providing a wide range of services to the NHS and to the
National Assembly for Wales.
The Information Products Unit (IPU) provides information services on behalf of
the NHS in Wales, including the collection, processing, analysis and publishing
of health and health-related data.
The information and statistics team is responsible for the analysis and
publication of health statistics, using a variety of means including static
reports, excel tables and interactive web tools such as Health Maps Wales.
Increasingly there is a requirement for more innovative uses of data in order to
inform decision and policy making within the NHS, with a greater focus on
research collaborations and the use of business intelligence tools in order to
model healthcare scenarios.
We have a vacancy for a dynamic individual to head up the information and
statistics team. Reporting to the unit head, the post-holder will manage two
main areas of work, one focusing on the analysis and statistical aspects and
the other (technical) team developing and maintaining the IPU Data
Warehouse.
The post-holder will require a significant amount of experience in the areas of
analysis and publishing, including a good knowledge of data warehousing,
business intelligence tools, presentational tools, statistical techniques and
release protocols.
The post-holder should put in place a structure which is responsive to the
changing information requirements of the NHS and allied services, and should
be able to communicate effectively with colleagues from a wide variety of
backgrounds, including policy-makers and planners, LHB chief executives,
clinicians, nurses, public health officials, academics and the general public,
offering workable informatic solutions to real-world healthcare problems.
