The Society for the Study of Childhood in the Past (SSCIP) offers prizes
for the best dissertations received each year on any aspect of childhood
in the past. There are two prizes: one for undergraduate students, and
one for Masters students. The prize in each category is three year's
free membership of the society (which includes the annual refereed
journal, Childhood in the Past). The closing deadline for receipt of
entries for this year's competition is 31st December 2009. Dissertations
completed during the calendar year 2009 are eligible. A copy of the
dissertation must be submitted along with a letter of reference from the
dissertation supervisor, which should indicate the grade awarded to the
thesis and provide an indication of its merits. Please make it clear
whether your
dissertation was submitted for an undergraduate or Masters course.
Overseas applicants who are unclear about whether their degree is akin
to a UK undergraduate or Masters programme should outline in a covering
letter the nature of the degree (including number of years studied,
credits awarded and the contribution of the dissertation to the overall
mark).
