Do you run computer taster sessions in your library service?
We run them very successfully in Poole but the demand seems endless and we
are running at our limit of staff resources, although we use volunteers. We are
looking for ways to provide more help, so I would like to know the following:
• Do you run successful taster sessions, and if so is this with library
staff or volunteers or both? If you don’t – why not?
• Do you offer computer help to the public by some other means e.g.
Computer Buddies or Drop-in sessions? Do you use volunteers for this? Do you
pay their expenses?
• Do you consider it worth the staff time compared to other activities?
• Do you use People’s Network machines or dedicated machines in a
training room (e.g. laptops)?
• Do you take the service into people’s homes (e.g. housebound)?
• Have you devised your own programme of sessions, or do you use
material such as Myguide courses?
• Do you charge? – everyone, or certain groups?
• Any useful tips to offer with regard to reaching the most people for
the least staff involvement?
I will summarise replies for the list.
