It's needed for some of the more advanced crypto options. It also helps
when the DOD decide that SHA is a nuclear weapon (although they are less hot
on that than they used to).
Finally if Sun screw up with their crypto library they'll not take you with
them...

Subject: Shib2 JVM tuning
Hi
In https://spaces.internet2.edu/display/SHIB2/IdPProdJVMTuning it talks
about installing the "Bouncy Castle JCE Provider". Does anyone know if
this is even vaguely required? Everything seems to work fine without it
(albeit its not in production yet!) and I'm always loathe to install bells
and whistles that may come back to bite if they're not really required.
