I have been following with interest the discussions on the listserv about the
place of humour. There is a huge amount of research that provides evidence
on the value of humour for building rapport in both the workplace and also
professional communities. Humour can be proven to be one success factor for
team building and fostering communities of practice. The fact that so many
people on the listserv are comfortable exchanging professionally linked jokes
may be seen as a sign of strong professional community.
We are looking very seriously at this as part of the research I am currently
undertaking with Northumbria University’s Continued Communication Research
Group, which is investigating communications and their management in the
21st century.
The following survey link is message is posted on behalf of Sylwia Frankowska,
Continued Communication Research Group. It takes only 10 minutes to
complete and deals with emotion in online text based communications.
