Postdoctoral Statistician – Research Statistics
Temporary Role
Sandwich, Kent
Pfizer’s Research Statistics department is a group of statisticians who apply
statistical thinking and methods towards developing new medicines for human
disease, supporting the late stage pre-clinical and early stage clinical activities
in the pharmaceutical development process.
A postdoctoral research position is currently available for a statistician with a
sound understanding of experimental design and linear mixed models. You’ll
support project teams in the design and analysis of studies run to assess the
efficacy and safety of new chemical entities. As part of a team, you will have
the opportunity to obtain practical experience in the application of statistical
theory, as well as help to assess the value of innovative approaches to study
design and analysis. We are currently assessing novel approaches for the
handling of risk and uncertainty in decision making, Bayesian methods in the
design and analysis of studies, as well as efficient ways to obtain maximum
information from longitudinal studies. Some time will be available for you to
research new statistical methodologies relevant to the issues we face.
What you will need:
- You will either have recently qualified with a PhD in Statistics or be close to
completion, with a demonstrable interest in the application of statistics to
practical scientific problems.
- A strong knowledge of statistical theory relevant to the design and analysis
of experiments is essential.
- A sound understanding of the main concepts underpinning: Normal linear
mixed models and standard experimental designs applied in scientific research.
- Experience in applying linear mixed models to real problems
- Experience in using at least one of the following packages: SAS, S+/R or
