4th Global Conference Visual Literacies: Exploring Critical Issues

Call for PapersThis inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary conference seeks
toexamine and explore issues surrounding visual literacy in regard to theory
and praxis. Perspectives are sought from those engaged in thefields of
education, visual arts, fine arts, literature, philosophy,psychology, critical
theory and theology. These disciplines areindicative only as papers are
welcomed from any area, profession andvocation in which visual literacy plays
a part.
Papers, reports, work-in-progress and workshops are invited on issuesrelated
to any of the following themes; * the concept and tools of visual literacy*
pre-school children and visual literacy* visual literacy and cultural identity*
interpreting elements and examples of visual literacy* visual literacy as
therapy* the liminal elements and facets of visual literacy* social and cultural
reactions to visual literacy* visual literacy in literature* visual literacy in
television and film* visual literacy and the media* visual literacy as a social
semiotic* teaching visual literacy* visual literacy as deformed discourse*
theology and visual literacy ? use and/or abuse* teleology and visual literacy*
the history of visual literacy The Steering Group particularly welcomes the
submission of pre-formed panel proposals. Papers will be considered on any
related theme. 300word abstracts should be submitted by Friday 15th January
2010.
If yourpaper is accepted for presentation at the conference, an 8 page
draftpaper should be submitted by Friday 28th May 2010. 300 word abstracts
should be submitted to both Organising Chairs;abstracts may be in Word,
WordPerfect, or RTF formats, following this order: author(s), affiliation, email
address, title of abstract, body of abstract We acknowledge receipt and
answer to all paper proposals submitted. Ifyou do not receive a reply from us
in a week you should assume we didnot receive your proposal; it might be lost
in cyberspace!

The conference is part of the ?At the Interface? series of researchprojects
run by ID.Net. It aims to bring together people from differentareas and
interests to share ideas and explore various discussions which are innovative
and challenging. All papers accepted for and presented atthis conference will
be eligible for publication in an ISBN eBook.Selected papers may be invited to
go forward for development into 20-25 page chapters for publication in a
themed dialogic ISBN hard copy volume.
