I no longer remember what my source was for that date. It is unlikely to be correct. The death of St. Martin of Tours is usually placed in about 397. Sulpicius Severus (_Ep._ 2. 5) places Clarus' death after Martin's (and gives the impression that the interval between the two passings was relatively brief). "d. 398?" would have been better.
