TONIGHT
You are cordially invited to a panel discussion on
The Dramaturg - Manager or Creator?
Can the dramaturg play a creative role in today's theatre or is s/he just a
"script administrator"? This discussion will address the discrepancy between
the ideals of dramaturgy such as in-depth research for productions, lengthy
workshops with playwrights and detailed script development, as well as
establishing long-term goals for repertoire policies, and the actual "Monday
morning work" of reading large amounts of scripts, working around tight
rehearsal schedules and often having only limited input on long term
programme development. What are the challenges of the dramaturg role? What
is left of the ideals? Fifteen years on since the concept of dramaturgy
really took off in Britain, what is the reality of the dramaturg?
