On Friday, 20 November 2009, the Cambridge Department of German and Dutch will mark
the twentieth anniversary of the Wende with the visit of two distinguished guests: Hava
Kohav Beller, award-winning documentary film director, and Ines Geipel, formerly
international sprinter for the GDR, now author and professor of literature at the Hochschule
für Schauspielkunst ‘Ernst Busch’ in Berlin.
At 3.30 p.m. there will be a screening of Hava Kohav Beller’s film, 'The Burning Wall', a
documentary investigating the dilemma of individual resistance within the GDR.
From about 5.30 p.m. there will be short talks by Hava Kohav Beller (in English), and by
Ines Geipel (in German), and these will be followed by audience discussion.
The event will take place in the Bateman Auditorium, Gonville and Caius College, and all are
welcome to attend.
