Maybe we should just get administrators here in the UK together for an Administrator workshop/symposium and share knowledge and experience. It could be as in/formal as the UK community wanted it to be....

You could count me in too if the costs weren't outrageous.

Julia

I for one would be interested in a shared course if this could be
organised. I am sure there must be other institutions in the same
position. Just surprised that Blackboard could not test the waters by
looking to run a course in the UK.

There is a Blackboard Trainer based in Amsterdam now and he covers the
'Rest Of The World' excluding North America!

As one might imagine, he is pretty busy travelling everywhere but can be
booked by institutions to deliver system admin training in situ. I would
expect this not to be cheap (I don't think any training is cheap!) but
it might be worth interested institutions contacting blackboard for
details and costs?

I went on a Blackboard System Admin training course in Amsterdam in 2006
(if I remember correctly). It run for 4 days and was a very good course but
cost an arm and a leg as you imagine and face- to- face courses like these
are few and far between. When asked about training in the UK the answer
we get from Blackboard it is difficult to run training courses in Europe
as all their trainers are based in the US (I got the idea they don't make
enough money by the time they pay the trainers expenses to get over here).
Therefore the regional courses are held in Washington so a bit of an
expensive course for us!

A while back they talked about getting some European based trainers but
haven't heard anymore about this. I think you can pay Blackboard to come
to your institution but this costs an arm and a leg as you can imagine and
you have to get a certain amount of participants. On their annual
conferences they do run pre- conference workshops which are half day or
full day courses on various aspects of Blackboard. You can do online
courses but I've looked into them and even they work out very expensive as
you have to pay for each individual unit and I'm not sure what you get for
your money.
