GLOUCESTERSHIRE HOSPITALS NHS FOUNDATION TRUST 
Band 7 National Ophthalmology Database Statistician 
1 Year fixed term (with possibility of further extension) 
Location: Cheltenham 

The English National Screening Programme for Diabetic Retinopathy and the 
Royal College of Ophthalmology wish to recruit a statistician to play a key part 
in the development and ongoing management of a National Ophthalmology 
Database. 

The new database aims to provide revalidation data to Hospital Eye 
Departments across England and also provide comprehensive statistical data of 
ophthalmology activity. The development of the revalidation analyses will be 
the main responsibility for the post holder. However, the post holder will attain 
an expertise in all areas of ophthalmology data analysis, and this will be of 
value to the English National Screening Programme for Diabetic Retinopathy. 

We are looking for an enthusiastic and self motivated individual. With few 
statisticians specialising in this area of medical statistics there are novel 
opportunities for the application of more complex methods. This post will be 
accountable to a senior statistician but there will also be collaboration with 
other senior statisticians. 

You will hold a degree in statistics or a related subject and have acquired 
additional specialist statistical knowledge through postgraduate diploma or 
degree, or equivalent experience. 

Research experience in a health related area and experience in reporting, 
interpreting and explaining complex statistical information will also be valuable. 

Hours: 37.5 per week 
Salary: £29,789 - £39,273 per annum
