Below are details of two Research Assistant posts at LSHTM. Both involve a
mix of methods development and applied work, and involve collaboration
with colleagues at UCL.

John
Department of Epidemiology and Population Health
Research Assistant in statistical genetics

A Research Assistant position is available to work on methodological
research in statistical genetics. The focus of the project is on
statistical methods to incorporate gene pathway information in genetic
association studies and the post holder will be responsible for applying
novel statistical data analysis techniques to this and other genetic
research problems stemming from the core project.

The post provides an excellent opportunity to develop novel statistical
methodology within a friendly and supportive academic environment with a
large programme in Genetic Epidemiology and Statistical Genetics. Key
responsibilities will also include writing publications for appropriate
scientific journals and presenting research findings at scientific
meetings.

LSHTM houses one of the largest groups of biostatisticians and
epidemiologists in the world and is the leading public health research
centre in Europe. The post is based in the Non-communicable Disease
Epidemiology Unit (NCDEU), LSHTM, and involves collaborating with
statistical and clinical colleagues at University College London.

The ideal candidate will be educated to a PhD level in Biostatistics with
a strong grounding in statistical research and development. Previous
exposure to large scale genetic data and Bayesian methods would be highly
advantageous. Knowledge on of one or more programming languages (C++,
JAVA, etc.) is desirable as is experience in using R/S-plus, WinBUGS. This
post is until 30 September 2012. The salary will be on the Research
Assistant grade in the range 30,639 to 35,194 per annum inclusive.

Applications should be made on-line via our website at
http://jobs.lshtm.ac.uk. The reference for this post is CV01. Applications
should also include a CV and the names and email contacts of 2 referees
who can be contacted immediately if shortlisted. Closing date for the

for an informal discussion.
Research Assistant in statistical genetics
We seek a statistician or an epidemiologist with strong statistical skills
to work on the development of predictors of disease risk incorporating
genetic information. This will involve both methodological development and
application to medically important examples. The post is funded by the MRC
and will be based at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in
central London.

The salary will be on the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine
Research Assistant grade in the range 30,639 to 35,194 per annum
