Job - Biostatistician in child health research
The Telethon Institute for Child Health Research (TICHR) is a
multi-disciplinary research centre affiliated with the University of
Western Australia, Curtin University and other Western Australian (WA)
universities. It aims to conduct research, influence policy and train
PhD and other students in a range of scientific areas. It has a broad
spread of topic areas which include all the most important health and
other problems experienced by WA young people.
TICHR is seeking one or more full-time/part-time Biostatisticians to
undertake statistical analysis, interpretation and presentation of
complex epidemiological, biological and genetic data. The successful
applicant(s) will have the opportunity to work with leading
bio-technologies, including genome wide association studies,
next-generation sequencing, gene expression microarrays and epigenetics,
in addition to large scale population and epidemiological resources.
They will be an integral part of the community of statistical expertise
at TICHR, and will liaise with epidemiologists, geneticists,
bioinformaticians and other scientific personnel to provide statistical
support for research projects in the areas of study design, data
extraction, statistical analysis and interpretation of results.
The position(s) offer an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated
person to make vital contributions to important improvements in infant,
child and youth health and wellbeing. While primarily a supporting
position, there will be opportunities to develop ones own lines of
research within TICHR aims. The candidate will also be required to
contribute to the preparation of research publications and research
proposals for submission to external bodies.
It is essential that applicants have tertiary qualifications involving
statistical data analysis and experience with one or more statistical
software packages (e.g. R, STATA, SAS, S-Plus, SPSS) for manipulation
and analysis of data. Past experience in epidemiological or genetic
research with hands-on experience in the analysis of large linked data
sets, microarray data or other genetic data will be highly regarded,
although training will be provided where necessary.
