Assistant Professor in the School of Design Strategies
Parsons The New School for Design is seeking qualified applicants with
professional and/or academic backgrounds
for a tenure-track assistant professor position in the School of
Design Strategies at Parsons.
Applicants should demonstrate expertise in the practice, history and
theory of management, with preference being
given to applicants with innovative research, doctoral-level work or
significant professional experience in one or
more of the following areas: design management, brand strategy, social
media, media strategy (particularly in
relation to Web2.0), and marketing. Applicants should be able to teach
students from a variety of design and
business fields. Candidates must be innovative in their pedagogical
approaches to activating students’ interest in the
relationship between theory and practice, and be forward-thinking
about what knowledge, skills and literacies are
now required to adeptly respond to complex 21st-century global
challenges. Experience with online learning
platforms is desirable. The successful candidate is expected to have
earned either a PhD in their field or an MBA
degree. The candidate is expected to demonstrate strong potential in
teaching, research, and scholarship, and will
have an established record of professional accomplishments.
The School of Design Strategies is an international, diverse, dynamic
and vibrant educational environment
consisting of nearly 1400 students, nearly 40 full-time faculty and
over 150 part time faculty who all live and
professionally practice in New York City. The School of Design
Strategies currently offers the following degrees
and programs:
- The BBA in Design and Management, currently serving more than 600 enrollees.
- The BFA in Integrated Design, with more than 150 enrollees; its
courses also service more than 50 Environmental
Studies BA and BS students and Urban Design Studies BS students.
- The Foundation program, which caters to more than 650 first-year BFA
students.
- In development: MFA in Transdisciplinary Design with concentrations
in Social Imaginary, Sustainable
Consumption, Organizational Systems and Urbanism.
- In development: Online MS in Design Management with concentrations
in Sustainable Design, Service Design and
Digital Entrepreneurship.
