Would you like to understand how to get the most out of your Digital SLR? Do
you end up hoping for the best when you take a picture? If so, you would
benefit from JISC Digital Media’s hands-on SLR workshops.
The first workshop on the 27th October is aimed at newcomers and will get
you feeling comfortable with using an SLR and explains many of those puzzling
aspects of digital images such as resolution and how to tweak the images to
get the best out of them.
• How a digital camera works
• Problems and work-arounds with the digital camera
• Introduction to colour, calibration and white balance
• Basic camera skills - photographing people, places and objects
• Essential lighting skills
• Storing images in the camera and transferring them to a computer
• Introduction to image optimisation
• Working with image tagging (metadata)
• Choosing the right camera - feature guide and comparison
• Extending the functionality - video and panorama
The second workshop on the 28th October is aimed at those wishing to
develop their skills further. You’ll learn how to create pleasing images using
depth of field, how to freeze fast moving objects and how to light various
subjects to get natural looking images. You’ll also learn how to colour correct
your photographs and we’ll investigate different file formats including RAW.
• Using the aperture and shutter controls of a digital SLR to improve
your photography
