Hello there
The IT and media and photography units here use something called Connect 2, http://www.lorensbergs.com/public-sector/connect2.aspx
Students can book their own equipment. I can ask someone to contact you re. their experiences with it if you would like more information,
Regards
Ellen

Subject: Pre-Booking Media Equipment
Hello Everyone
Our IT & Media service is trying to find a way to pre-book equipment such as
cameras and laptops for loan to students. We can do some of this with our
LMS, but it isn't a perfect solution and doesn't really provide the
flexibility we're after. At the moment, the items are borrowed on library
records, but the pre-booking is more of the problem.
I wondered what solutions other institutions are using?
All the best
