Bioinformatician
Genomics Laboratory
MRC Band 5 Salary £23,665- £26,647 pa inclusive
London W12
The CSC Genomics Laboratory (http://www.csc.mrc.ac.uk/ResearchFacilities/)
provides state-of-the-art facilities for high throughput genomics research
for investigators at the CSC, Imperial College using conventional (ABI 3730)
and next generation sequencing (Solexa, ABI SOLiD and Roche 454 platforms)
and microarray (Affymetrix and Agilent) technologies.
This tenured position is for a Bioinformatician specialised in high
throughput genomics data analysis to facilitate the work of various research
groups in the CSC using next generation sequencing and microarray
technologies. You will perform bioinformatics analysis of different genomics
data modalities and will provide support to research groups working on the
genomic and epigenetic control of gene expression to investigate the genetic
basis of common human diseases.
The successful applicant will have an MSc or equivalent experience in
bioinformatics with good programming skills and proven experience in genome
analysis and microarray data analysis. Previous experience in analysis of
large-scale genomics data would be an advantage. Excellent communication
skills and the ability to support and train researchers with genomics data
analysis is essential.
The post holder will work alongside another Bioinformatician in the Genomics
Laboratory and will be part of a growing Computational Biology community at
the CSC.

Bioinformatician
Epigenetics, Development and Cancer Section (3 years)
MRC Band 4 £29,663 - £35,399 per annum inclusive
London W12
The Epigenetics, Development and Cancer Section of the CSC takes a
multidisciplinary approach to gain fundamental insights into the epigenetic
and transcriptional control of gene expression, development, and cancer. Our
work aims at a better understanding of human health and disease and the
development of new biological therapies (
http://www.csc.mrc.ac.uk/Research/Groups/EDC/).
Working closely with biologists and computational scientists at the CSC,
Imperial College and external collaborators you will provide support and
training to research groups in the Epigenetics, Development and Cancer
Section. You will use existing tools and develop novel approaches for the
analysis and visualisation of data from array hybridisation and high
throughput sequencing (RNA-seq, ChIP-seq) projects. You will integrate these
data with information from genomic databases (sequence features,
conservation, repetitive elements, etc.). The post requires significant
postgraduate experience in bioinformatics, analysis of microarray data,
programming, a good understanding of biology and excellent communication
skills.
