Hi everyone
I've got a good retention query for late on a Friday afternoon...any thoughts
and opinions gratefully received.
I've had a query from one of our schools with regard to overseas pupils who
may only be at the school for a very short period - often the schools may not
have a forwarding address for these pupils. Clearly, pupil records should follow
the pupil but in this circumstance, this may not be possible or practical.
The RMS guidelines state that pupil records should be retained until DOB plus
25 years. I'm not sure if this is practical for a primary school if an overseas
pupil does not return after a short term period and there is no way of
forwarding the records to the overseas school.
I'm trying to get an idea of how often this happens - I think proportionality is
the key here. If there are only a few instances of this occuring, surely it
would not be too onerous for a primary school to retain the records for DOB
plus 25 years. However, if there are large numbers of overseas pupils who are
in this country for a short period and leave, this could be a problem.
If anyone else has come across this issue, I'd be happy to hear from you!
Regards
Sarah
