ah, the delight of archives (which a group of Canadian writers &
critics were discussing this pat weekend in Toronto at the little
conference celebrating Sheila Watson's 100th birthday [had she lived
this long] at St Michael's College, where all her papers are now
stored, ready for the scholars to start parsing....) (Ask me about her
& I'll tell you that The Double Hook, her novel, has been one of the
central works of Canadian literature since its publication in 1959;
also she taught at U of A, so I knew her as a friend, mentor,
intellectual stimulant).
