route, from the cathedral, out to the monastery of Josaphat, maybe 10 km
outside of town,

the Benedictine abbey of St. Mary of Josaphat, founded by St. Ivo's successor,
Bishop Godfrey (II) of Leves, and his older brother, Lord Goslen of Leves, on
their ancestral land, it is said in expiation of Godfrey's pledge to go to
Jerusalem (interrupted at Rome by his election to the see), Leves' position in
the valley of the Eure being, viz-a-viz Chartres, (roughly) analogous to that
of the tomb of the Virgin in the valley of Jehosaphat viz-z-viz Temple Mount
in Jerusalem.

the Vidames of Chartres, and in whose parish Leves was before Josaphat's
founding).
